Causes of Irregular Periods


 
Irregularperiods are not always a sign of health issues. During a normal menstrual period, an egg is released from the ovaries and that period is termed as ovulation. When the egg is not fertilized by the sperm then change in the hormone levels triggers the body to shed the blood along with the tissue that lines the uterus. This process of shedding the blood typically lasts for nearly five days and then the cycle repeats. But in some women there is abnormal uterine bleeding which can also be termed as irregular periods. The main reasons for the onset of such condition could be stress or lifestyle changes that may lead to serious medical conditions.

An irregular period is said to the state in which the menstrual cycle falls outside the range of regular period. This can include the abnormal bleeding such as bleeding between the periods, bleeding after sexual intercourse, and heavy bleeding during the periods, Menstrual bleeding time which lasts longer than the normal and bleeding after reaching the menopause. After the attainment of the puberty many women has the regular menstrual cycle however the American Institute of Family Physicians have mentioned that 14% of women have irregular periods between first period and menopause.

There are many reasons for the onset of irregular, late or missed periods. The most common causes include
